A couple of fairly straight forward heats this morning. Just 21 competitors in the 200 fly so anything but last would get Adam through. 15th place will do.

And with less than 20 in the 100 free both Sam and Adam just had to finish safely to go through. No problems there, both qualify for the semis this evening.

In the final of the 4x100m Freestyle Relay Sam went out hard and turned in second place. Hatfield opened up a gap on the 2nd 50 but Sam touched in second place as he handed over to Adam.

Adam was chased by Plymouth but held the second place at the second takeover. Jack slipped back to 3rd at the turn but was back up to second at the end of his leg.

The other teams held back their fastest swimmers for the final leg and they proved too strong for Bluefins who put their fastest swimmers first. Bradley swam close to his heat time but finished 5th overall in 3:52.62.

That's an improvement of 2 seconds for the team over their time at the regions and an improvement from 7th seed going into the competition.

In this evening's finals session Adam swam his first individual semi-final in the 100m Backstroke. He got off to a good start, fastest off the pad in the second semi. At the turn he was about 1m down on the leaders and came up for the second 50 ahead of the swimmers either side.

He finished in 1:03.30, an improvement on his heat time placing him 14th overall.

And right at the end of the session the first team event of the competition - 4x100m Freestyle Relay. The team stuck with the order that won them the regional championships in June with Sam Irvine leading the team off. Sam held on to the lead off swimmer for Plymouth Leander on the first length turning with their swimmer. He slipped back a little on the second 50 but knocked over a second off the time he recorded at the regions handing over to Adam in 55.13.

Adam closed the gap on Plymouth on his leg touching just one tenth of a second behind.

Jack Taylor took the third leg knocking over half a second off his region time swimming 58.75.

The final leg saw Plymouth and Coventry showing why they were the top two teams as they pushed well ahead but Bradley Sutton also improved on his region time to hold third place and touch in 3:51.53.

A nervous few seconds as they waited for the scoreboard to show if that was good enough to make the final - then yes, seventh place overall and another chance to swim in this evening's final.

First up, Adam Milne for his first individual event - the 100m Backstroke. Adam set an even pace turning 5th in 30.74, around a second behind the leader. He held the position on the 2nd 50 to touch in 1:03.64 an improvement of 0.7 seconds on his entry time.

This put him 15th overall and will see him go through the semi-final this evening - a new format for 14 year olds this year.
