David Sparkes OBE, the Chief Executive of Britishg Swimming was the guest speaker at the Hampshire County ASA Dinner on 1st October.
In closing his speech, David used Bluefins as a good example of a large viable club, which is almost totally self-funding.

The challenge has started!
Three of our older swimmers , Gareth Waller, Oliver McSoley, Greg Thomas and club coach Andy Cackett set out from the Aquadrome on Tuesday 3rd August on a 1500+ miles charity cycle on their way to climbing the highest peak in each of the 4 home countries - Snowdon , Slieve Donard, Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike. They are raising money for the Basingstoke Bluefins nominated charity Cystic Fibrosis as well as the club itself.
Having cycled through Wales and Ireland the boys arrived in Scotland exhausted but in good spirits. They plan to climb Ben Nevis tomorrow (Aug 8th) before starting the long road home through England taking in Scafell Pike, arriving back at the Aquadrome on the weekend of Aug 14/15th.
If you have already donated to this amazing charity challenge then many thanks or if you would still like to, please visit their ‘just giving’ website www.mycharitypage.com/cackett.

This Coming August four of us from Basingstoke Bluefins (Andy Cackett, Greg Thomas, Gareth Waller And Oliver McSoley) are undertaking a challenge in aid of 2 charities:
Basingstoke Swimming Club / Water polo Club & Cystic Fibrosis
The Challenge itself will be taking part from around the 10th August 2010 taking around 12 - 14 Days to ride from The Aquadrome over 1500 Miles and Climb the 4 Highest Peaks in England, N Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
The Route and details can be found here on our website.. - http://www.4peaks4bikes.co.uk/page21.html or here - http://www.4peaks4bikes.co.uk/page14.html

Please Please Please help donate money via either site - http://www.4peaks4bikes.co.uk or http://www.mycharitypage.com/Cackett its a safe, easy and quick way of paying so please help support us
