Basingstoke Bluefins Squad Structure

Basingstoke Bluefins allocates swimmers to squads according to their physical development, swimming ability and commitment. Swimmers are expected to meet published criteria for each squad:

General Criteria

It is expected that members of the club will conform to a basic training code:

  1. Swimmers are expected to attend the required number of sessions for their squad in order to maintain their position within that squad. Parents and swimmers should be aware that times and sessions may change in the future, according to availability of facilities and squad developments within the club. Advance notice will be provided of any changes.

  2. Swimmers should be on poolside 5 minutes before their session commences, to allow for registration. In performance squads, this should be 15 minutes before pool time, in order to do land based warm-up. Swimmers who are late should see their coach before entering the pool.

  3. Swimmers should have correct equipment, including suitable drinks, (weak squash or well diluted sports drinks), in appropriate bottles, (plastic with sports lids), goggles and swimwear which fit well and are in good condition. All squads from Fundamentals to Training To Compete must supply their own kickboards and pullbuoys. Short training fins are essential equipment for Swimskills, T2T and T2C. Swimmers with long hair must wear a swimming hat.

  4. Swimmers should expect to take a maximum of one toilet break in a session of two hours duration. No others should be necessary if the swimmer has paid a visit before the session commences. Coaches will exercise discretion in this matter. Should you need to leave the water, for any reason, the coachs permission should be obtained.

  5. Training should be undertaken with the objectives of the session in mind. Good lane discipline is expected of all swimmers.

  6. Changing areas, including communal changing rooms, should be left clean and litter free, as swimmers would wish to find them. As representatives of the club, swimmers should make sure that they behave appropriately both in the pool and in public areas.
